Principal's Report

Dear Families,

REMEMBRANCE DAY

Well done to the three Year 6 students (Isaiah, Hugo and Willow R) who led our Remembrance Day service this week. The students guided the whole school through information, the Ode and the Last Post, before laying the wreath at the base of the flags. The whole school was very respectful in their observation of this important yearly service where we pause to honour and remember those who served and sacrificed their lives in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping efforts.

NEW BUILD - 2025

I am so excited to share the progress being made towards our new building! Our builder, Lyons Construction, has provided us with a well-organised and efficient timeline, including the demolition of B Block over the January holidays and an estimated completion date of mid-2025. As a local business with extensive experience working on projects in nearby schools across the region, we are looking forward to working with Lyons.

As you can see from the visual representations below, the new section will be adjoining our main building, and will include two classrooms, each with a breakout space and storage room. We’re also adding a planning room, sensory room, resource room, and accessible toilet. This project has been a long time coming, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with how it’s shaping up. The results will be fantastic for the long-term future of Wallington PS, with revitalised facilities to support our ambition to deliver the highest-quality wellbeing, curriculum, teaching and learning, all happening amongst our beautiful natural environment.

GARDENS AND CHOOKS

This week Garden Club have installed new padlocks on the chook gates to help ensure the safety of our chooks. During school times, students make the most of the beautiful garden and collect the eggs with supervision from staff. On several occasions recently, the chook gates have been opened and left open after school meaning the chooks have escaped. This obviously poses a risk for the chooks as well as a risk for the gardens as they can get up to mischief when left to it!

We thank everyone for your support of the Garden Club and for your cooperation in ensuring that before and after school hours all the gates are locked.

ASSEMBLY PERFORMANCES

Please note that at the following assembly dates students will be performing. As always, families are welcome to attend:

·       Week 8 (FRIDAY 29th November): 1/2s and 5/6s

·       Week 10 (FRIDAY 13th December): Prep and 3/4s

2025 BOOK PACKS

As communicated last week, Book Packs are now open for orders direct through Kookaburra via the instructions sent out on Compass. Orders placed by 8th December will be delivered to the school in time for Term 1; late orders will incur a delivery fee and be sent directly to your home. Teachers have carefully curated these packs to keep costs down, providing essential resources for students. As per Department regulations, the 2025 Schools Savings Bonus ($400) cannot be used for Book Packs or Voluntary Contributions, but can go toward camps, excursions, and uniforms. Thank you for your support!

PAINT AND PIZZA NIGHT

Thank you to everyone that came to the pizza and paint night, it was such a fun event. Lots of amazing art was created and the pizzas from the pizza oven where delicious. It was nice to get together as a community and eat, drink, paint and laugh together.

Special thanks to Kat for teaching us all a new skill and helping us to create something we are proud to hang on the wall in our homes. Kat is a very talented artist and thanks to her kind donations two lucky guests now own a piece of her art. Congratulations to the winners Jess and Lou!

Notice Board

The Junior School Council have organised a PJ Day.

Students, teachers and even parents at drop off or pick up, are invited to wear their favourite PJ’s to school. All coins donated will go to Story Dogs. A big thank you to Liz and Sally, our Story Dogs team at Wallington Primary School.

Story Dogs enables a child and a dog with their volunteer handler a weekly one-on-one reading session held at the child’s reading level throughout the course of a school year. The literacy program is based on the Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) model.
